>I couldn't find anything for sure , nothing marked like this in the Hand Saw makers of N. America, Nothing in any of my English tool makers books either...but in the Directory of America Tool Makers I see a Clark listed as having made saws in 1870-71 but they are supposed to be marked Hogan Clark and Sleeper co.....Is this the maker of your saw? I don't know but your saw looks to me to date from about this time or maybe a bit earlier what with the small sunken medalion. Guess always the possibilty of it being a hardware store name though I don't know if I ever saw one with a stamped blade, saw does look to be of lower quality judging by the shape of the handle which could fit in if it was a hardware store stamped saw...again all this is just guessing but maybe gives you a bit to think about.
I believe that the regular saw nuts were patented in 1887 though some cheaper saws continued to use split nuts for many years after that probably because they were cheaper to make.....Todd

>It's just stamped B CLARK in a half circle and WARRENTED 1 SUPERIOR in a straight line under that. I hadn't thought about a Hardware brand. Probably is. Oh well learn and live. Thanks
