>Here's an ugly carving I finished tonight...

Went down to the shop last night, figuring I would do some sharpening (I'm "between projects" right now). I started honing some carving chisels, which had I discovered were kinda dull when I made that spoon on the weekend. Pulled some basswood (from a tree that was downed by The Great Ice Storm of '98) from the scrap bin, and tested my chisels. They work real nice now. Probably not up to serious-carver standards, but more than good enough fer me.

Next thing I know I'm almost done carving this hideous *thing*. Symmetry? Proportion? Never heard of 'em. Tonight I finished carving the toenails, sanded it down a bit ("a bit" he says, snicker) and sawed it off the end of the stick. The base is about an inch and a half across. I figure I'll mount one of those 1 inch rare-earth magnets in the bottom.

This will be a seriously weird fridge magnet, eh?

P.S. How did you make out at the Tools of the Trade Show?

>Darrell, the carving shows you have a very sensitive eye. Not sure I would make a kitchen magnet of it though. Is it large enough to mount on a brass plinth, drill holes in the ball, and use it to hold writing instuments? It could use a few coats of nice colored shellac as well. Just my 2 cents worth. Beautiful work!

>Not. I think you did a pretty good job. Carve another one and make candle holders for Halloween...
