OT: E-Bay Question
Bob Hutchins in Central Texas
>Recently I bid on an item and won it. When I went to pay for it, I discovered that the seller does not accept money orders in payment. I don't use credit cards or paypal because of personal and reported problems (and the fact that I spent 40 years in IT).
Upon discovering the situation, I e-mailed the seller and offered to pay by check or money order but they were adamant that they would not take that form of payment. Purchase and shipping was $35. I remember looking but don't remember seeing an admonition that the seller doesn't take mo's in the sales ad -- it wasn't figured prominently enough for me to catch it. From other experience, most sellers accept mo's.
After having my payment method offer refused (their email response was not prompt; they posted that they only reply every 3 days), I posted a very neutral feedbck stating that I didn't complete the transaction because the seller wouldn't accept my payment medium offered. eBay's software posted what I'd characterize as an incredulous cautionary response to a neutral feedback, which I couldn't understand at all. How can feedback be credible if neutrals are discouraged? I received a prompt e-mail from the seller thanking me for the neutral feedback.
After a few days, I got a notice from eBay that I had one strike and would only be allowed 2 more. There was no avenue offered to discuss or mitigate their position. I won't bother. All other sellers have posted 4-star positive feedback on the dozen or so transactions I've done on the bay.
My question is . . . is this fair and reasonable? I realize that the forum errs on the side of sellers and understand that sellers need protection. I DON'T understand why the bay gives so little credibility to buyers.
I'd appreciate some feedback from sellers like wildhorseforge ToddH and others here whose opinions I respect. This experience has soured me on the bay and I'll probably stop shopping there. I'll take advantage of their lists to give me pricing guidelines, maybe, but I won't bid on any more items there. They have nothing to sell that is as important to me as my good reputation (or what's left of it :>)).
