Shop Shot #4105

William Duffield, on the Cohansey

>A view from the shop this afternoon, of the top of my bench. I've been working on restoration of this antique Ware rocker on and off for a couple of weeks. It's a shame, but we had to destroy the original rushing in order to disassemble it. I removed all the nails from a previous botched repair, removed the screws that had reattached the rockers and plugged the stripped out screw holes, rebuilt a seat rail tenon, made a new bent back splat, and fixed some cracks and chips. Well, now it's time to reassemble it. Should I do it right and use the smelly hide glue? Naw, I'm in a hurry, and it's Friday afternoon, so I think I'll just pin the tenons and be done with it.

Hope your day went better than ours.

>And the little orange plastic asterisk shaped collars on the nails will add a homey touch the the restored chair. After close to two centuries, what's left of the original finish and patina is looking a bit drab. I think I'll add some glitter to the brush-on the polyurethane to brighten it up a bit.

>Would it work? You want toothpicks, maybe? These particular loads are designed for anchoring 2x studs into poured concrete.

No one ever told me about any artificial time limit on these things. As it was, I went over to the other shop a bit early, planning to get the photo posted while most of the WC guys with their computers available through their day jobs were still around, but as I noted, we did not have a good day. There had been a serious accident with a power tool before I got there, so staged AFD photos had to be postponed. Later, I had even more distractions, so just count yourselves lucky that you got to laugh at this little joke at all.
