My Friend Norm

Tom MacGregor

>Although he had no interest in computers and was not known by those who frequent this board, I would like to note the passing last week of my friend Norm Benoit at age 63. Nearly ten years ago he suffered a series of strokes that left the right side of his body permanently paralyzed. He decided that it was not going to prevent him from doing the things he loved. After relearning to walk, with incredible determination and hard work Norm taught himself how to continue to fish and do woodworking. My mental picture of him turning out an endless variety of objects - including commissioned cabinets and bookcases will always be followed by one of him casting his rod and landing a near trophy size largemouth bass with one hand. This was after driving his boat and trailer to the landing, launching the boat and piloting it to his favorite spot. He taught me my two most valuable lessons: How to stay sober and that most of my limits are self-imposed. I will miss him. The majority of the fish in Lake Champlain will not.

>Sorry for your loss. A good person will live on in the legacy of the memories of his friends. You've got that baton, and may you do it justice.
