Nagura Stone

>Well by the number of posts I've been doing you can probably tell that I'm in to sharpening now! :) It's all a part of the slippery slope.

Last weekend I bought the Norton 1000 and 8000 stones and have been playing with them over the past few days. I did not get a Nagura stone for the 8000. I've heard that it is not needed. So for those who are much more experienced at this than I am, should I use a Nagura stone on the 8000?

Also, I'm storing the 1000 stone "dry". Other than adding 10 minutes to fill the stone is there any problems with this?

Thanks, Mike

>No problem storing the 1000 dry as long as you give it time to soak up some water before using it.The 8000 should always be stored dry and given a spray of water before using.I've sharpened with and without a nagura on 8000 grit. The nagura gives a bit more of a friendly surface and makes the job that much easier.I also feel it gives a sharper finished edge.
