Astragal Press book question

Todd O. Cronkhite Maine Native in FL. Exile :~(

>Been considering buying the book "Henry Disston & Sons Handbook For Lumbermen" from Astagal. Thought it might be a good resourse for seeing all the different tools that where used in maintaining one-two man crosscut saws. Has anybody else bought this book, and would you recommend it?

Does anybody know of a good book that illustrates the tools used in maintaining these saws and how they where used.

What drives this question is that in the April issue of Woodworkers Journal I saw an article on how one of the tools was used that I had always wondered about. Since I have a small collec..er, er, accumulation of these saws I'd like to be more educated on what tools I need to maintain them and how to use them.

Passed over on a nice Disston one man crosscut this past weekend as the seller wanted what I thought was too much for it.($25) Dang, and I don't have that tooth pattern either. Would of taken it for $15 tho. Fiqure after toting it around for a few weeks he'll be more apt to come off the $25. Coarse, I risk never seeing him again, or somebody else buying it, but hey, that's part of "the game" eh?

Best book for big saws

>I know you must have Leonard Lee`s book on sharpening there Todder.

You`ll find everything you need in it to get you going including how to make a spider to check set on a 2 man crosscut saw.

That`s one book I keep going back to again and again. You just can`t go wrong if you follow his directions.

>Yup, got it there Bobber(snicker, snicker) Yes there is info on the big saws, but I fiqured that I might as well bone up on all the tools tat where used in their maintenance if for no other reason than to know what I am looking at when I find it at the bottom of a cardboard box. Know what I mean Vern?

Just seen a saw set for these saws in LL's book and dang if I didn't find on $bay so I punched the "Buy it Now button for $15.

There was also a big saw jointer that I missed earlier as I wasn't sure what it was until I saw it in LL's book, but by then it had sold. :~(
