Nice Chisel Handles

Dan Clermont in Burnaby

>Hello Everyone,

Freinds and I are getting together for a turning party this weekend. One of the items on the top of my list is new handles for my Socket style Berg chisels.

Right now the handles are so nice (full Berg Blue label) I can;t take a mallet to them for chopping out dvetails but I was hoping to make some new handles either out of qurtersawn curly maple or cherry.

I like the LN design without the tang.

What do your prefered chisel handles look like and how do they stand up to light chipping?

TIA,

Dan Clermont

>Dan, end grain apparently takes enormous abuse before 'chipping' or showing any other signs of giving. The county park just pruned some of their ornamental fruit trees that line a parking lot. I wish I could photograph the handles I've made; I can say it's a very tough wood. But whatever you use it won't wear down anytime soon. Anything in your firewood pile would surprise you - even red oak.
