Everlast Chisel Mania

David Miller from Iowa

>Helping my Dad out carrying junk yesterday and in the bottom of an old drawer I find a canvas roll of 12 full length, near mint, bevel edge Everlast chisels. Told my Dad that the big widths were running $200 each on eBay and he, for the first time in decades, gave me that "I know you are lying look". Punched it up today and they were maybe $100 for recent completed auctions for the big widths. Is my memory failing, or weren't there none to long Everlasts going for $300+ a while back?

>I saw a mint large width Everlasting go for $355 in the last few days. There seems to be one guy in particular, who must have spent several thousands for Everlastings and other chisels in the last few months, who's driving the market.

You've got a gold mine on your hands.

>I seem to recall a couple of the big boys probably trying to round out there sets. Remember them going head to head over four chisels in pretty crispy condition. Seem to recall each getting two and paying somewhere around $575- each

I'd say the value would depend pretty much on the condition of the chisels, with those in excellent condition being collectors meat.

Stanley made thes in three different lenghts as far as I know

Longer firmers No. 20 & 25

Middle lenghth pocket chisels No. 40 & 45

Shorter butt chisels No. 50 & 55

Forgot to mention....

>I saw the same thing. In fact, I added the item to my "watch this item" list just so I could see what it finally sold for. I'm pretty sure that Tony is correct with the $355 final price because I had mentioned in a response to the post that provided the link that I thought it would probably go in the $375-$400 range, given that it was somewhat above $300 at the time of the post and that there was an one and a half or so left in the auction. I remember than my estimate was a little too high.

I deleted it from my watching list, but I'm pretty sure it was within the past week or so.

>I kind of think of the value of a tool now, but am not selling much. The reason being I don't need the money; I could actually do with less food, rather than more ;) I have a few items that are worth a little bit of money, but none as much as a set of Everlast chisels in a role. But I have to think of what they might be worth to my daughters in 50 years from now. Perhaps they might even want to keep them for their children. Tools that are cared for are bound to increase in value. Money, on the other hand, even if spent well is usually just gone or spent on soemthing that will decrease in value. Just something to think about if you are thinking about selling them.

Every time this comes up

>I wonder whether I should eBay my one Everlast chisel, 1-1/8" - except it's not an Everlast. Todd Hughes told me he thought it was by the company that made this style before Stanley bought it, but I can't remember now what company that was. Maybe he'll be nice and tell me again.
