New backsaw at the Woodworking Show
Joe Rogers, Northern Virginia
>The Woodworking Show in Chantllly VA didn't have a tremendous ammount of hand tool content. I did however find a booth (I'm surprised) set up by "The Best Things". I met the owner Lee for the first time. Nice to find another vendor that caters to Neanderthals, and local to boot.
In his area I found the new Pax 1776 open handled back saw. Lee has a good price on this saw, $109. The Thomas Flinn website must have a misprint on the price. I won't even quote it due to the big discrepancy.
This saw is nice. The open handle is similar in shape to the L-N and the craftmanship is way better than the other Pax backsaws. Nice balance. (I had to ask if I could unbox the saw so I didn't have the guts to ask for a test drive.) The handle is very comfortable. Not quite the same as a hundred year old Disston but a great improvment on the boxy standard Pax handle.
This is another option for someone looking for a new backsaw with older features.JR
