>Looks like I will be going to this auction instead of Brown's auction this year. Technically, I could go to both, but I am not yet so far embroiled in the aquisition of cast iron as to play the fool with my wife and our bank. My tool buddy brought it to my attention, and we think it looks like the tools here will probably be affordable to some degree, when compared to Brown's auction. This is a three day auction with 15,000 tools; probably 13,000 hammers the way it looks, but there are a lot of tools there, and it will definitely be a blast. Hope to see some of you there, unless something drastic happens to me before then.

>They held a large tool auction up there last summer, too. Didn't make it up there - it's about a 4 1/2 hour drive for us Kansas City folk.

>I noticed a lot of stuff is in boxes. Is that how they sell the items, as box lots? Or do they pull individual items out of the boxes like I've seen at some auctions. I've been to plenty of auctions, but not one that sold specificly old tools. How bloodthirsty a bunch are you guys :^) LOML and I are discussing a trip to an antique tool auction for a change of pace from the usual furniture and collectibles type they have around here.

I imagine they have plenty of "spotters" so people's bid isn't ignored? Nothing worse than waving your arms and bid card wildly in the air and the auctioneer misses the bid because his view is blocked by some tall galoot in front of you. :)

Holy cow that is a lot of planes, so does that mean you'll be skipping Ray's on the 30th.

I hope not - John

>I went to the huge sale last year at the same place. It was amazing, if it wasn't for sale there the tool simply never existed.

they sold many of the items in boxes as a single lot, so you we bidding in everything in the box.

There was also a lot of items for sale that we unlisted in the sale flyer. So they a lot of neat extra items.

I've been to a lot of local auctions on the hunt for tools, etccc....but this was a totally different animal than I had ever seen. Some of these guys were professionals, or extreme collectors. I myself being just a lowly user, at least that's what I keep telling myself, was amazed at some of the prices being thrown out.

I was floored when somebody ran up the bidding on beater, barely user plane and a box, the guy that won almost had a coronary when the kid that was bringing him the box almost crushed it!!

Lucky for me my inlaws just live in souix city-just up the road for onawa.

I think I may have to pay them a visit!!
