Greene:&Greene in Pop. Woodworking!
Wiley Horne
>Nice surprise this morning! A Care package arrived from LN. Already good news. But in addition, LN has taken to sticking the latest Pop. Woodworking into its shipments (smoove move by somebody over at PWW).
Anyway, I thumbed right away to Adam's article. He does his customary great job of merging theory, history, self-discovery, and practical application.
But here's the surprise for me! Right after Adam, there's a real-deal Greene & Greene article by Bob Lang. He illustrates how to make several G&G details, including the breadboard-end-plus-spline detail. We have kicked this one all over the lot here, but he does it right. And he lays out a G&G tinting scheme for mahogany I have never seen discussed elsewhere.
I am going to break down and buy a subscription, which is a cheaper way to get the magazine than order an LN tool every month. And I sure hope that Bob Lang has some more on G&G in the future.
Bob mentions the Hall Bros., Peter and John, who did G&G's actual furniture making. Two Swedish brothers who came to the US with about nothing--not even formal woodworking training as I understand it--and became the finest in these parts (So. Calif.) at what they did--furniture and stair-making.
I really appreciate what Pop. WW is doing. Bring it on.
