OT a warning about expensive addictions.

Ed Snow

>For those of you who are interested in tool making I would like to extend a warning about what happens once you begin to enjoy metals as much as wood. It is a dangerous situation, resulting in upper back pain, burns, highlighted with occasional forays into agony.

I present to you my newest toolbox,

Now this is truly a toolbox in the neander spirit, sharing and gloating. One side is flies I have recieved while fishing somewhere new and talking to a fellow fly fisher-peoples about the location or the best flies. The other is my favourite fly fishing images, mostly pictures of great trout and salmon I have caught, the various places I have fished, and pictues of me doing odd things on trout expedition.

>Ed,

Very nice toolbox! A few questions... What metal(s) is it made from? Did you construct the hinge from tubular stock or some other method? How did you learn to do metalworking? Did you take some classes or learn from books or some other way? My wife and some friends do jewelry and I've always been fascinated by this kind of work.

Interesting photo in the box also... care to comment?

Thanks,

JK

>I am slowly learning incredibly difficult things at my university where I am a fine arts student. This was supposed to be a simple container. It got close.

The body of the box is 18ga copper and the rims 16ga nickel. The hinge is some heavy wall tube I made. The only thing you do not see is the married metal amd mokume trout medallion that goes on the top, the trout is two alloys of gold, silver, and nickel swimming in nickel and silver mokume. It is still in the patination process.
