It most certainly will look distinctive to anyone who is more accustomed to North American hardwoods. The best description I can give is that when properly finished (oil, wax, shellac, poly, whatever - so long as it has a good buffing) it sparkles like it has a hundred tiny jewels embedded in every square inch.
It is a softwood and is light weight (similar weight to red cedar) tight grained and very easy to work.
