New workshop up & running

>Here are some pictures of my new workshop. Not much room for woodworking, but there is some room to make plane blades. Today, I roughed out a few 3/4" blades for the Stanley #46. Coulda made more, but had to watch the TarHeels spank Ucon.

Jim, you appear to be showing serious metalhead tendencies here. I don't see much evidence of woodworking going on in your new shop.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. I figured maybe I would have a better chance of figuring out just what mystery Adam has been trying to demonstrate to us, by building a striking knife. One of those Makitas is laying on the lathe bed, I have a hacksaw blade in the bowsaw, and I think I have figured out a ready source of fire bricks to build a forge, but LOML has this thing about keeping a fire burning in the fireplace lately. If this keeps up, I will soon run out of cherry and locust for new tool handles. Do you think she suspects?

No Basements

I attribute small shop here in hel, er, er, Florahell due to the fact that we have no basements. Gotta store stuff in the same space as would otherwise be a dedicated shop. If your lucky you can have a small outbuilding like I do, but that's about it. Coarse I blame that more on being a surbanite more than being in Florida. Coarse, I blame being a surbanite on on having the kahooonas to insist upon the wife otherwise.

Shoulda' been around when I buying my first house here. I told the real estate agent to show me homes with a basement, and she said there wasn't any. Man, I hit the roof. Just ain't natural.

Exactly!

Jim Reed @Tallahassee

>With all the sinkholes and the low water table, a basement can quickly become an indoor pool down here. I think the real solution is to build a shop in the backyard.

>You poor sap! I have the entire basement if I want it all to myself unless there is a tornado than I have to share. my bench room is about 12'X14' I have a sharpening rust cleaning room 10'X5' actualy made to be a bath but just a sink so it works for me. Then I have the mechanical room 12'X16' rust storage nothing but shelves for storing stuff that I may or may not sell some day probably never use any of it. then there is the family room 14'X60' couch, bar, computer desk for sellinge-bay junk and packing materials small pile of wood ~100bf or so.

>I don't have a basement either.I started the house with free salvaged lumber.A basement wasn't a financial option.I built a workshop/garage on the ground and then built the house on top of it as a second story. The garage has since been converted to all woodworking shop.So when I want to work in the shop I just go downstairs.---Jack
