Yet another Plane Dating question

Kevin French, Antrim NH

>I've bought a couple Stanley Plane, maybe a few- ALL RIGHT A HALF DOZEN. DOESN'T MEAN I CAN'T STOP, -I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS.

OK

I've went through and dated all my plane but came up with an odd one. Here's how it breaks down on the dating, (to me).

It's a nice #3.

No dates behind the Frog- 1-8,15-20

No Raised Ring on front Knob- 1-8

Size # cased into Bed- 5-8

2 Dates on Lateral Adjustment Leveler- Makes it a "Type 5 made between 1885-88."

Here's the problem. The Pat. date on blade is Ap'l 19.92, No big problem here, write it off as blade replaced from a newer plane.

But one of the TWO dates on the L.A.L is 10.21.94.

In Pat Leach's comments on plane dating he says,

"There are some hybrid models, and sub-models, which aren't fully documented, but what follows are the ones you're most likely to encounter."

May thoughts are I have a Hybrid/sub-model tpye 7, w/a left over blade. (?)

Note to TC. I found this one in the dump.

>According to Leaches Feature Timeline study the "Pat. AP'L 19,92" stamped on the iron - was on types 6-9

Further cleaning on the L.A.L. and under magnification makes it 10.21.84 not 94. and 7.24.88, Pat. dates, but the 2.8.67 is date missing on for it to be a Type 6,7.The Type 5 two dates are the 2.8.67 and 10.21.84.

There is also an "S" raised on the bed behind the frog, that I don't have a reference for.

>Sounds like a type 7 to me. The "S" mark is from the Sessions Foundry who was contracted with Stanley to make some or their castings.

If the lateral lever adjuster is two piece and the brass adjustment knob has a left hand thread you are past type 5 and somewhere round type 6-7.

>Just found that in the Plane Type Study and because there is no date in the Depth Adjustment Nut makes it's a Type 7 with just 2 dates on the LAL.
