supplier of plane blades for cheap?

>So I've recently gotten into this plane-making deal recently. I don't want a whole bunch more, but I think I'm itching to make maybe 1-3 more. I don't have a jointer yet and I wouldn't mind another smoother bedded at some other angle I don't have yet. (I currently have the LN LA smoother [which after the secondary bevel essentially becomes a 50 degree angle], a #4 record bedded at the usual 45, my infill (when it's completed) will be 50, and my first wooden plane at 55).

About three years ago I had purchased some plane blades & chip breakers from LV for pretty cheap (label said made in czech republic). I can't seem to find those anymore. I know everyone recommends hock blades--especially the short blades for wooden planes. I'm wondering where you folks get your plane blades.

I've read up on making my own, but I think that might be out of my league.

TIA

>Ron makes excellent plane irons, I don't think you could do wrong in using those. I would love another three or so myself in inch and a half perfect for smoothers in my opinion. If you need a longer iron you might try steve knight, or capturing some old irons out of old planes.

Not the best way to start

>ALL of the function of a plane (cutting) is done by the blade. Other parts are in a supporting role. I suggest you get the BEST blade you can find. Save the cheap parts for something else, like the tote. Good luck.
