Stanley mitre boxes - any favorites?

>I own one of both type of mitre box that Stanley produced. The two rod type (a 246) and the single column type (a 2358) and was wondering which of the two designs others preferred and why.

Personally, I think the edge goes to the two rodder, but it's close.

>Well, I have one, a #358, so I guess it is my favorite. I can't really compare it to anything else though.

Those who are able to form opinions seem to favor the Millers Falls mitre boxes. They use a different blade support mechanism which may be more stable. IMHO, the blade support of the Stanleys is the weak point of these boxes. I have a Marsh 100 miter clamp & saw (ancestor of the Stanley 100) that has a blade support like the Millers Falls boxes and it seems more stable to me than my Stanley #358.

Just when you thought you had it narrowed down to Stanleys...

>I have a stanley 360a that I'm still in the process of getting in working order.I found it on the floor at a flea market all rusted up.I got it cheap.Once I got it cleaned up however I found a new problem--finding a saw to fit it. Now that I have the saw I have to clean IT up.Maybe sometime this spring I'll have it up and running. Meanwhile,my user is a very nice Millers falls.I have it screwed down to a bench across from my main bench and I find myself using it all the time.---Jack

>I'm in the same situtation Ken is in. I have a Stanley miter box but it's the only one I've ever used. I don't recall the exact model number but it's 2244 or something like that. The saw is a Stanley made by Disston that's around 22" long or so.

Got it on ebay about 6 months ago and only used it 5 or 6 times but it works fine. I don't think it's all that old. However, I don't have any thing to compare it to in the way of hand power miter saws.

I do have a DW 12" compound miter saw that's going to be sold after I finish a large crown molding project that I'm working on in my home. That means, it will probably be an antique before it goes up for sell.

I guess the true galoot doesn't need such an aid. I need to work on sawing to the line. In the mean time, any help is appreciated.
