>For those of you with too many tools, here is a suggestion. Curtis Buchanan and Scott Landis (and a few others) have an organization called GreenWood. They go down to Central America (and I think South America) and teach the locals how to use hand tools to make chairs and other products. I emailed Scott Landis and got back the following reply.
"For the moment, we are always looking for good drawknives (small to
medium size are most useful), spokeshaves and basic turning tools
(simple gouges and chisels). We can also use all types of hand planes,
auger braces and (a few) eggbeater drills and hand-crank bench grinders,
although braces are usually in pretty good supply.
With any used tools, it's very important that they be in decent working
condition--no point in shipping worn-out tools around the world. They
don't have to arrive sharp and tuned up--although that's always
helpful--but they have to be worth the effort of putting them in good shape."
I have donated an old plane or two (with new blades). If anyone is interested I can get them Scott's email address.
