Whatizzit? corner....

John Longwitz-Doraville, GA

>...many years ago I acquired a few old planes and parts from my Uncle. Since starting my "slippery slope" slide I've been giving them more attention. One of the items is a Keen Kutter plane blade that I don't know how to categorize. It's standard length and a full 1/8" thick (yippee) but is 2 1/8" wide. Before I remove 1/16" from each side to make a user out of it I thought I'd ask if anyone knows what type plane it was used on. Has the Keen Kutter logo with St. Louis U.S.A. at the bottom of the inverted triangle. Any ideas??

>Just a guess, but maybe off the one of the transitional planes but was early size for sure.

Think i would keep it for trade material to somebody that needed that size.

>I think Dennis got it. A Stanley 27 had a 2 1/8 wide blade. Since Stanley made planes for KK (and others), that is likely the source of your blade.

>...that's sort of what I figured but have no experience with transitionals. The keyhole slot is the same size as a normal iron body blade so I may pare it down to 2" and make use of the thickness. It has some pitting and someone in the past took a Drewmel wheel or similar to the surfaces so isn't much in the collector dept. Maybe use it on my K5 I'm cleaning up.

>How about cutting the sides of a plane so the blade sticks out flush to the sides like a #10?
