>Here's a pic of my bench as I was putting it together,

This is one half of the bench, it is 54" wide by 36" deep, 42" tall. I took a commercial tabletop, which was particleboard with laminate, and married some 4/4 ash to two sides. the left half of the bench mirrored this portion. The legs are hemlock and the base is a plywood and syp torsion box.

I'm 6'3" and that was a comfortable working level for me, hands at the level when standing.

This 'half' of the bench is meant for storage, as you can see I incorporated a metal filing cabinet I located. The left half, you can just see sticking in the corner of the image, is supposed to be the 'working' half of the bench. I haven't installed my vice yet, but plan on doing so in the near future, along with drilling holes for bench dogs along the Ash portions.

>that photo was a year ago, this is closer to how my bench area of the shop looks now: I've since done a bit of cleaning, but it still catches a lot of clutter.

I think I hear that Steve Knight and I ought to get together and see who has the wildest shop. (Perhaps I'm wrong, but I think I read about SK's proclivity to mess a while back - if not, I apologize Steve. But it would be nice to have some company on the I can't find squat front.)

>I don't know about his current shop but his first one was 10X10 at most and let me tell you it was a mess I couldn't beleave all the stuff he had in there and still managed to put out planes. If i remember right he has about 400 clamps in use at any givem time he also has who how many planes in the works at the same time. so what looks like a mess to us coule just be random caious to him.

>I think a human's definition of "mess" would be "chaos." Also, probably "random" and "chaos" are either redundant or mutually exclusive, can't decide which. :)
