28" Scioto Works Jointer

David Hammond, in Powder Springs GA

>Picked this one up off Ebay for $8.50, plus shipping. The mouth is fine, the sole is a little worn, the iron is really thick and not pitted - I should be able to run the plane over a jointer if I find the slight hollow in front of the mouth a problem. Definetely needs a new edge, but it took a nice thick ribbon off a peice of oak - the background in the second pic are my scribbled efforts towards a new bench!

David - slowly falling down the slope, picking up tools as I go.

nice bench drawing too

Wendell @ Murphy, TX

>I am not sure which I like better, the plane or the drawing of the bench. I've been following the bench threads you've started closely. Send me a copy of the plans when you get it all figured :) The plane looks like a keeper.

>I've been looking for a long jointer like that. I would have paid more that $8.50, too. :)

>:o) I would have paid more too, but this auction ended at one o'clock in the morning, and I was the only idiot who stayed up to bid on the plane!

>Hopefully that's a good thing! :o) As soon as I drew up what was in my head, I had a thousand things to add, subtract, and change about it, but I had to start somewhere. When I get further along, with something legible, I'll post it.

>That's what sniping services are for, so they can bid when you're asleep or otherwise occupied. I really like Hammersnipe since they're free with donations optional. I use the donation approach because I'm no longer what I'd call a regular bidder, generally donate $1 per bid.
