Re: weekend projects
William Duffield, on the Cohansey
>Well, the weekend is over, and I've actually made some progress with shop projects. I started with a trip to the Borg, and brought home some new fluorescent shop lights, based on professional recommendations I received at the last Springfield meeting.
Then, I realized the Lee-Valley sale on Bessey's was going to be history if I didn't act Yesterday, so I placed an order with them. As usual, I got a bit carried away, and ordered some other stuff, too. You can never have too many clamps. Most of the other stuff you don't want to hear about, because it's accessories for the lathe.
I installed the shop lights, and made a big pile of the old ones to haul to the dump next weekend. The new fixtures and new bulbs make a world of difference, and the recommendations were right on target. No more flickering and buzzing in cold weather, and no more green shop shots. I still have more than half of the old $8 specials to replace, but that'll have to be done later, and the shop is still cold, and it's still snowing.
A friend called to gloat about an antique tall case clock he had won at auction, but which has suffered abuse due to a too short ceiling, so it looks like I'll have a commission to do some restoration work on the bonnet and feet.
With what's left of the evening, I'm working on an organizer for sandpaper and other finishing stuff, so it doesn't get buried and lost under the shavings from the lathe. Hopefully, I'll come up with a "till" that will hold the paper in order by grit and let the sawdust fall through.
