Wooden Cabinet Drivers - eventual auction

Pat Riley

>A few weeks ago I posted some pictures of the screwdrivers I made because I could never find any nice wooden phillips or robertson drivers.

Since doing so, I have received lots of inquiries about possibly making some to sell.

The interest in them has prompted me to make an effort to return something to WoodCentral since I have gotten so much from this site. In the next few weeks,(hopefully before summer) I will be making a few more drivers, one or more of which I will be placing up for auction - the proceeds to go directly to WoodCentral.

If I did end up making some to sell, what would you guys consider a fair price?

Thanks,

Pat

>They look great. I'd say if you double the cost of your materials, then figure out what labor rate you want to pay yourself, and then calculate it. It's tough to put a price on it, without knowing how much time/effort it takes for you to make it.

>Mike is right. I usually double the material costs too, but I add 10% for "Murphy's Law". This usually works out good for me.

Maybe not the best comparison...

Greg Phillips, -2 degrees in MI

>...but LN sells their screwdrivers for $20-25 each. That doesn't account for the fact that theirs are manufactured in batches while yours are one-off, but it does give you some idea of where the market is at.

Yours are nice looking drivers!

Cheers,

Greg

Don't know but...

>These handles are round, and are for more detail work. I am getting ready to make a heavy duty high torque driver with an oval handle.

>Joe ... who needs a $75 screwdriver?

Ah, but there's a big difference between needing and wanting. I really want the one on the right and I'm offering fair warning to all that I will be bidding agressively :-)

>I understand completely! And for an excellent cause. I have long admired your taste in tools.

Have you ever grubbed up a blade for your infill? I just wish I had the $3000 that Steve Thomas' infill loopy was available for about 3 years ago at the PATINA sale. Nicest tool I have ever fondled.(I'm not worthy) But some day I will get an infill of my very own.JR
