Happy Ending

Christopher Schwarz

>As many of you know, someone swiped my Wayne Anderson miter plane from my bench during a woodworking show last fall. So far, the plane has not turned up, and I don't expect it to, really.

Thanks to many of you on this board, on the oldtools listserv and other online forums, the word is out among collectors. So the thief will have a difficult time fencing the tool among the honorable collectors.

The good news here is that Wayne has built me a replacement (thanks Wayne), and my employer picked up the tab. Somehow, this plane is even better than the first and has already been pressed into service.

Thanks again to everyone for spreading the word.

Wayne forgot to ...

Bill Ward

>Wayne forgot to add a security eye bolt so that you can chain the plane to the bench or to you. Great job, Wayne!!!

Chris: why don't you bring your planes to the Kansas City Woodworking Show in March. The WoodCentral Breakfast Club (Kansas City Chapter) will even buy breakfast!!

>Chris,

Glad for the happy ending, however, in many cases tools have a sentimental attachment to the owner that can never be replaced. I would be heartbroke to lose any of my late Father's tools, or any of the odds and ends bought for me over the years by my Wife or Daughters, no matter how good or bad the choice of tool was.

>I'm really hapy to hear that things came out OK Chris. Your boss is to be commended. I will admit however, that I and I'm sure a large number of others, are still seriously ...... that something like this would happen in the woodworking community.

My assumption

Christopher Schwarz

>Dave,

After doing these shows for three years I've come to the conclusion that there are larcenous people who work these shows and they aren't woodworkers. I meet thousands of woodworkers every year at these things and find them to be the most upstanding and honest group of people I've ever met on the whole.

And because my job/mission is to share and communicate I tend to err on the side of openess. Still do.

"Stolen from the bench of Chris Schwarz"

But I decided it would be in really poor taste...even for me!

What a beautiful plane...

>and how great that Wayne could make you a new one. That theft was very disappointing to all who read about it. Glad the magazine picked up the tab, and I hope you get years of use out of it. Thanks for sharing with us, your 'happy ending.' -Barb S.

Chris, question

Dan Donaldson

>Do you have a higher resolution version of that picture? As Andy mentioned, it would make great wallpaper, but it is a bit small for many screens.

(I run 1280 X 1024) and some are probably higher than that.
