Auctioning a drawknife
Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA
>I somehow have acquired a few drawknives, probably at least one more than I can reasonably use in my lifetime, unless they discover the cure for aging real soon. I'm thinking about auctioning one off, but the post office tells me shipping in the U.S. would be about $5. Since the only drawknife for which I've paid more than $1 is the first one I ever bought (and the worst, ironically), I don't know if an auction is a cost-effective approach to supporting Ellis, or if I should just send him the money I'd pay for shipping.
This isn't a fancy, mint in box drawknife - we're talking one that's seen some of the rough patches on the road, though the cutting edge is clean enough. A little sanding, a little oil on the handles, and some sharpening, and I think it would be a good tool.
Could I hear from some of the folks living in hard-to-find-tools places? What would it be worth to y'all?
