Question for Chris Schwarz

Jack Guzman from Maine

>Chris,

You had a pair of ariou rasps that you were using at the Springield WoodWorks show. One was quite a bit smaller than the other with a finer tooth pattern. Can you tell me exactly what that one is called and what number it is?

I looked at Tools for Working Wood but there are too many choices and I don't have enough information.

thanks---Jack

Intro to Crack Cocaine *LINK*

>Jack,

That little rasp is quite special. It's the 4" modeller's rasp in a 14 grain, which they are out of stock on. Joel has the 5-7/8" version in stock for the same price (same grain). I'd get that one without a second thought. Link below.

Hope this helps and hope you've dug out of the blizzard.

>Thank you Chris. That will do just fine. Your heading is appropriate.I made the mistake of picking that thing up and handling it at the show. Now every time I try to shape anything with my nicholson's I think of that nasty little tool and what I could do with it.I just have to have one.---Jack

*NEW SLANG ALERT* Rasphead

Eric Hedberg

>Rasphead - Term used to describe a woodworker hooked on rasps as a woodshaping tool. Though this addiction has been historically worldwide, availability of rasps to North American addicts has been restricted under a relentless combination of market share consolidation and source extinction. A resurgance of "designer" rasps from Europe have begun to show up recently on the wood circuit. Users purport that these new Eurorasps produce a state of ecstacy missing in the North American strains.
