>Here is a picture of the 2x4 TV stand I made for my friends one afternoon a few weeks ago... While I did kill some electrons making the project, everything was cut by hand, and all the wood was hand-planed. Still, it isn't a pretty thing!
>I like the way the legs slant in - more interesting than straight vertical legs, and very 50's looking and thus appropriate to hold a TV, since they took off in the 1950's (I can testify to it: I wuz there!).
You made an interesting looking piece of furniture from construction grade material - nothin' to be ashamed of, and a great improvement over cinder blocks and boards.
Bill, who suspects some of his taste in furniture dates from when the coffee table in the house he lived in used broken motorcycle pistons for ashtrays.
>Boll I have a macrame table to go with them ashtrays it is made from the front wheel of a 63 honda 90 with a round peice of glass on top of that there is a ring gear at the top where it turns up to the attaching ring lots of black and yellow cord and fringe Really sweet I'll try and get you a picture.
>Looks alright to me Jonathan. It's certainly of different design than mine, but it looks fine to me. Do you have rods going thru the top corners of the legs for add'l srength?
Truly is amazing what can be done with common construction grade lumber isn't it.
>I thought about running threaded rod through the supports to add strength, but in the end didn't bother to, mostly because I was too lazy to go out and buy the material...
My assumption was that modern wood glues are strong enough (and moisture resistant enough, etc.) that it wouldn't be a problem... It certainly seems strong and stable, and it is for a relatively small TV, in a location that shouldn't result in it getting much additional stress (e.g., no one jumping on it, etc.). So I think it'll be OK...
