More Applause for Lee Valley
Alan Hamilton
>There have been a great many stories about Lee Valley's wonderful service, but recently they went way over the top for me.
A month or so ago someone else began a thread to find where he could get replacement irons for his Stanley #71 router plane. Rob Lee wrote that he had some on a lonely, dusty, long ignored warehouse shelf somewhere in the Yukon Territory. In an email I asked him what he had, and how I could get them. He emailed back that he had every iron that I wanted, and gave me some special instructions on how to order them.
Rob also said I needn't order them right away, that he would have them available. I replied that there was no need to wait, I was going to order some other things anyway, so I would take all the irons now.
A very few days later, before I placed my order--and before I paid for anything--the replacement irons arrived at my door!
I have no idea why he thought I was deserving of his trust. He knows nothing of me wehatever outside of the times I've chimed in around here. (Needless to say I validated that trust the same day the package arrived by telephoning in my order and making sure I paid for the irons.)
I thought such ways of conducting business had disappeared with the corner grocery store. Apparently there are still some who will build a business relationship based on trust. Relying on those you're doing business with to be honest is a much nicer way to do things than "I will try to cheat you, so you better see if you can cheat me, and then perhaps it will even out in the end."
Thanks Rob. I'm sorry I took so long to post this. No excuses...though egg nog affects me that way...
