William Duffield, on the Cohansey

>Kinda like Gunga Din? :^) Well, I hope you somehow manage to have a happy holiday anyhow.

>Yeah, well, you can imagine that people would be unhappy if they didn't have water on Christmas. :)

Thanks for the wishes for a happy holiday - I'm sure I will. I just wish I'd get a break from working Christmas just once. :)

>Aha! Well, keep the water flowing, and I hope that you have time to squeeze in some good times with the family.

Sympathy and thanks

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA

>I've got some friends in police work (less liquid than your job, at least on good days), and have a good deal of sympathy for those who have to work the holidays - but am very grateful for those who do. We all need ya.

>Thanks Bill, I really appreciate the sympathy. I guess if anyone has to work I'm the best pick. The two step kids are adults (well, at least they're both over 21) so it's not like I (or they)are missing that much. I guess it would just be nice to have Christmas off just once.

OT: Christmas, etc.

Don Thompson - Cutler Ridge, Florida

>I am the cook around here, too. At least I got Friday & Saturday off from the day job.

Christmas cooking note:

Yesterday, a couple of the in-laws from out of town (does that make them outlaws?) stopped by in the afternoon. I had bought some Pacific wild salmon, and some wicken chings, and whipped up some canapes and grilled the wings with a special marinade/baste.

The in-laws announced that they have turned vegetarian, and do not eat fish or fowl.

:-(

Hey - leaves more for you!

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA

>At our most complicated in this family, we had two carnivores (my wife and I were moved away from vegetarianism years ago, when the boys were little - so complicated when kids are small), one "TacoBell" vegetarian, and one realllly purist vegan.

It's simpler now - we all like the turkey.

More simple solutions

>If you`re coming to my house and have special food requirements then you can either bring it with you or eat what we eat, those are the choices.

I may be wrong but I look at food as fuel not a political statement or part of my being a slave to fashion(low carb fast food, come on now!)

Each case of the new MRE`s the military gets now have 3 vegetarian meals included in them.Don`t get me started on stories about catering to the dietary/religious needs of privates in basic training in today`s Army.It is after all,the holiday season.

>Well, I'm okay with catering to vegetarians, even the so-called "ethical" vegetarians as long as they don't criticize my eating habits. Of course you have to know exactly what kind of vegetarian you're cooking for - there are just so many different kinds from lacto-ovo to vegans.

In any case, our dinner went well last night.
