Shooting Wooden Plane Soles...
Ed DeLauter
>Hello,
I have had my Ulmia Reform and ECE Reform Smoothers for about three years or so. I decided to "shoot the soles" on both planes. It is interesting that both planes had identical deviations. There was a slight crowning longitudinally; with the apex at the mouth area of both. These planes were both made with quartersawn lignum vitae soles. I used a freshly sharpened blade in a vised up, upside down Stanley 6. The six is normally only used for shooting endgrain.
The results were excellent.
I was wondering if anyone else who uses wooden smoothers or other wooden types as well has seen a
similiar deviation of the sole.
Cheers,
Ed
