I was also wondering if you guys that use electrolysis all the time have found that screws come loose better after zapping or if you need to get them all free first?

I would think that the screws would loosen if they sat in an electrolysis tank for awhile.

X-ZAPPING this sounds like a Todd O project master zapper. I don't do much zapping any more if it is that bad I don't bring it home or if I do I sell it and let the new owner mess with cleaning.

I clamped onto the rod- which was above the waterline- and both pieces of iron stuck in the soup gathered rust from opposite sides of the tool at the same time. I'm going to try a piece of stovepipe and see if I can get 360 degree removal.

PS - I would loosedn the screws first and then clean out the gunk. Electrolysis won't work on the greasy/dirty areas, they need to be cleaned first. If you do it without loosening the screws, you probably won't get the rust out from around and under them.

Orange - "Power Good"

Red - +5VDC

Yellow - -12VDC(on connector P8)

Blue - +12VDC

Black - Ground

Yellow - -5VDC (on connector P9)

I know that newer power supplies have +3.3VDC too. I would get ahold of a multimeter, check the voltages, and start with 5V DC. I might give this a shot myself tonite and see what damage I can do as I have an unlimited source of power supplies.

>It works, at least using 2 of the yellow 12V leads and one black ground. Bubbles kinda slow, even compared to my 4 amp charger. If its still alive in the AM, I'll rip it apart and solder on thicker wires, hopefully it will improve the amperage getting to the rust.

Just take two or three blacks and same number of yellow, and bunch together. They are connected to the exact same spot inside.

By the way, computer power supplies use a switching circuit. Most of them will not supply a full 12 V amperage unless the 5V side is also in use. I would try a 6V light bulb across one of the 5 V connectors. All it takes is a little bit of drain.

I find the Mac to work quite competently for woodworking, and for web based woodworking support, and even for hand-tool woodworking, with one minor exception -- it has a propensity to kill electrons, just like Wintel machines. There is nothing that a PC can do that a Mac cannot, and vice versa. "It's all ones and zeros." Many things, due to hardware acthitecture, OS, philosophy, and SMOP, the Mac does better, some things the PC does better. When ergonomics are considered, the Mac has a clear, demonstrated advantage. OTOH, If you compare total IT support salaries vs. the useful work performed by the supported users, the PC clearly wins. I'm not about that. If I were, I wouldn't be providing free advise and support to WC.

I own and have owned and used Macs since early 1984, (I'd rather not be reminded of when I bought my first DOS machine, but I own several of them and their spawn as well.) and have programmed, supported and maintained Intel/IBM/�soft machines, and designed and developed systems based on both platforms, and several other computing platforms, beginning in 1966. I have used PCs out of economic necessity, but Macs by choice and what is, IMHO, just plain common sense.

Lots of bubbles cleans better too. Electrolysis is not "line of sight" it just seems that way with weany power. E=IR. The solution supplies resistance. So the farther away, the lower the voltage, and the slower it goes. This is why backsides go slow.

Just use a battery charger.

Frankly, I love the Macs, even though I don't use them. I have a love hate relationship with the predominate OS on the PC - namely Windows.

It supplies the bulk of my income, but really is a terrible dog. (And that's being unfair to even the meanest junkyard dogs.)

Macs, while the hardware is overpriced and seems to have a propensity to design fluff has a very nice OS. They're a computer for the guy who simply doesn't want to worry about what is going on underneath the surface, but wants quality.

Windows is for those who want pretty, but are willing to buy trash on the inside as long as it's pretty on the outside. (Sorry, I'm part of that group too, so I'm dogging myself as much as anyone.)

Unix is for people who don't care how butt ugly it is, but it must be really done right and seriously functional. However it appears, it's not a real requirement that it be way too complex and user-unfriendly.

So, in short, I love bugging the Mac folks. But when asked about them, generally say I love them. If you can live with the software available for them - which won't be as plentiful and as cheap as that for Windows - you'll probably love em.

But they (the users) wound so wonderfully, and with such elegance and style, I can rarely pass the opportunity to inflict one every so often.

Otherwise you just make them angry, increasing polarization, and decreasing the likelyhood that they will learn anything in the future. Also, on a public forum, yanking tends to upset lots of people other than the intended victim.
