>I don't know, Ernie. It costs me $35-40 bucks just to ship a small set of chisels and/or a plane via EMS from Japan. Have you checked out USPS?

>No specific suggestion about sending chairs to Japan, but: Most airlines offer freight service, and on occasion the rates can be surprisingly competitive if you're flexible as to which day the shipment goes. Or you might inquire about services called freight forwarders, who handle customs etc and may help arrange a carrier. Good luck...

>I checked with them the package is to big. 108" L W &G i'm at 120 which is 12 inches to big if I disassimble the chairs. I would jump on that like a cat on mice.

>I've never shipped anything out of the country - so I don't know a thing about this, but you might check with DHL. I have no idea how big a package they will ship or what the cost would be but they do advertise heavily about their international service. www.dhl.com

>Ernie ... the one time I shipped furniture to Japan I used a customs broker to handle the whole deal. This is really easy in LA, where you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a broker/forwarder. Kansas might be little harder; try this webside to find a broker in your area: www.ncbfaa.org

Good luck ... rj

>You have to use a really really good finish on the chairs to reduce moisture exchange before shipping ground to this destination (or, for that matter, to Oz or Kiwi country).

>Ummmm, no - you're not the only one. But I figured I'd cut Ernie a break as he lives in the heartland and may not have seen a large body of water. :)

Strange as it may seem...

>Either Jack or I could drive to China or South China for that matter in a matter of hours(less than one for me).Norway and Mexico are as easily accessable as well as Dresden and Madrid and Belfast. These are all towns right here in Maine.

I figure Kansas must be much the same type of place, maybe Ernie can drop it off for you on his way to the next auction.;^)

>Of course, having struck the broker with a dead cat (probably killed by an accurate strike by a Kunz #75 clone, right, Sir William?), you will pay higher-than-usual rates.

>How about a saw and some glue...

...some assembly required...

You know the drill.

*grin*

(You could even be a great guy and include some glue and really badly translated English-to-Japaneese assembly instructions too! 'All your base are belong to us!' [Do a google on it.])

Cheers,

Greg

Nope. You're not the only one.

I thought about asking; but I decided not to.
