my lucky day

Mike in Mystic

>No gloats to be declared, but my LN mortise chisels (1/4", 3/8" and 1/2"), my Blue Spruce Toolworks marking tools (large & small knives & scratch awl in blackwood) and my WC hat and t-shirt all arrived today.

The LN chisels look great and not surprisingly are just as nice to put your hands on as the bevel-edged socket chisels. They have the same handles, and are also socket-type. FYI, I had them put my name on a waiting list awhile ago, but I'm not sure if this means they are shipping to all that have done so. They're still not on their website for some reason.

Dave's marking tools are unbelievable. I can't wait to use the small knife to layout saw-thickness pins (too bad I probably won't cut them very well hehe). This was a bit of an extravagence for me (meaning, I already have marking tools, but just wanted something nicer - the price was $125 for the set, including shipping, which I think was a great price). The large knife is, well, large. From order placement to receipt was 8 days (and that's coming from Oregon to Connecticut).

And, finally, I can show the world the best place to go for great woodworking information, both on my head and my chest. Can't beat that.

Woo hoo.

>Hey Mike,

I'm up in Lisbon CT. Do you have a pro shop down in Mystic? If so are you looking for any help? I'm an IT computer person, but I'm slowly getting into cabinetry, and I'm in between employment at this time.

Cheers,

Gil

>Mike ... you're going to love the BS small marking knife - you'll probably add a couple of DT's to each project because they're so easy to mark with this tool .... rj

>Hey Gil,

No, I'm not even close to a pro - still would call myself a newbie, even, especially when it comes to hand tools.

I'm kind of cultivating my skills to one day do a part-time furniture business, but that's a ways off yet. I'm really not sure how to go about finding a cabinet shop or furniture shop that might need workers. Anyone have any tips?

Hope you get some work soon, I know how tough that is.

>Mike,

Glad they all arrived in time for the weekend! So what are you going to build and show us on Monday (G). Be careful with all those new, sharp tools!

>Gee Mike, sounds like a bad case of sensory Overload to me. How'd you decide what to open and play with first?

Good thing it's a long weekend, you'll need a few extra days to get that silly grin off n' your face, or at least for it to fade a little. ;~)

Have fun!!

>I too have a three piece set from Dave, and I love them. I got mine in ebony and they are a beauty to behold and a pleasure to use. I really like the large marking knive, mine were too short for 8/4 stock, but Dave made me one extra long.
