>Hello all,
I am planning on buying some LN toys at one of the woodworking shows after the first of the year. Does LN offer any discounts at the show? If not, I may buy sooner.
Thanks,

>Woodcraft sells LN planes for the same price as LN does. At least my local Woodcraft gives you a 10percent discount for your birthday each year, so I've used mine the last 2 years on a new LN plane.

Thanks for the tip. I will check the show website.

>Paul,
I have bought all of my LN tools through Woodcraft by either using the birthday discount or in February when they often have 10% off.
I would like to purchase it directly at the show. I thought it would be a nice way to thank LN for being at the show in Columbus as I don't think they have been there before when I was able to make it.We 'll have to see if it works out.

>They offer a 10% discount at the shows but add tax back on to the total so the discount only amounts to 1 or 2%. In the case of the Costa Mesa Ca. show last weekend they were charging 8.25% in a county that has a tax rate of 7.75%. As a former business owner in Ca. it is my belief that you could only charge tax if you had a resale license and reported the sales. Most of the other sellers were doing the same except for one, you guessed it LV!! Honorable to the bone!! If you want a full 10% discount, finetool journal.com is a good way of getting it.

>Last Thursday (4th), I had a coupon good for 15% off sale at Woodcraft (Bay Area) in Dublin, CA. I went and picked up a few items, and there was a sign on the LN plane display case that they were included in the sale. Didn't get one, but was tempted. That's probably the cheapest I've seen. The 4 1/2 I have, I purchased at a show for 10% discount.

>Woodcraft frequently has 10% off everything days, and 15% 'bag sale' days, when everything you can fit in a specific bag is on sale. LN is typically included.
That said, there are a couple of mail order sites that sell selected LN tools, primarily block planes, at a modest discount.

>regarding the tax issue:
LV was taking orders and shipping, specifically to avoid certain sales tax complications. Whether that meets the specific letter of the law is a question for experts. I am not one.
LN was delivering merchandise, for the most part, at the show. Tax was certainly due on those sales.

>Thanks everyone!
I hope to be able to support LN at the show like I mentioned earlier.I will call them and ask about discounts and sales tax and such. It used to be that they shipped any order for around $6 which certainly isn't bad these days.
I'll weigh all the options and maybe even call Woodcraft to see when the next 15% one day deal is coming up. Thanks again for all of the responses.

>Our local Springfield, VA store was offering 15% off for three or more planes, which is something that WC does on occasion. I have a friend that wanted a 60-1/2R, so I opted to pick up the other two.
Last time LN did the Baltimore show, they were offering a 10% discount, although you'll want to come early if you are looking to take anything unusual home versus mailed out.

>Hi Glenn -
Actually - we take orders at the shows because we just can't bring everything, and whatever we brought wouldn't be correct. It's a lot of inventory to truck around, and we're usually doing multiple shows, so the issue is compounded.
Yes- tax nexus is always an issue, and the laws vary from state-to-state - some easier, some very difficult.

I was disappointed that, although you chose to do Southern CA, you passed on San Mateo, near San Francisco. (That won't stop Santa from working over the catalog, however ;-))

>How long does it usually take for bright, sharp things ordered at the shows from you guys to land in knuckle-draggers' paws in the U.S?
I am anxiously awaiting my new bullnose plane, which I ordered at Ft.Washington. I went to the show intending to actually try one out before deciding whether or not to buy it, but as you are aware, there were unexpected problems with that strategy. Oh well, I ordered it anyway, because I figure there isn't going to be anything I don't like about it. Now the suspense is killing me.
Maybe one of the neighborhood cats swiped the box off the back porch, figuring I would now have much less compunction against actually throwing the Kunz #75 Klone at one of them, now that there would be a real alternative in my shop :^)
