>I picked this old saw up at a farm auction today. It has quite a medallion, almost a sculpture. The handle is pretty much toast, as it's rough and severely worn away. The nib is OK and surprisingly, the blade doesn't look too pitted. Does anyone know anything about "Taylor Brothers Improved" saws and their fancy medallions? It looks like a likeness of a queen with a crown which leads me to think it's English. The nuts stand above the wood on the opposite side, and look hand made as the slots aren't centered.

>I dunno nothing about it Dale, but that sure is one nifty medallion. Even tho the handle is beat, I display it just as it is. Let us know if you find out more about it eh. Bet ya' got it cheap, cheap didn't ya'? Even if you had to pay as much as $3 YOU SUCK just for having found such a cool and different madallion.

Taylor Bros. in England started around 1840 or so, IIRC, and was around till after the turn of the century. There have been other saws like that that have come up on ebay - none of them fetched an outlandish price, but did fairly well - something between $75 and $150. If I remember what I read at the time, there were 4 different versions of those 'medallions' made... but that's from memory, which hasn't always proved the most reliable source of info...

>Todd, the saws were 3 for $2, I jumped on too soon. I should have waited for the auctioneer to drop to a $1. The other 2 were nothing Distons in fair condition, one with a thumb hole handle, but no remaining finish.
