Police?

Todd Hughes

>I would for sure notify the police but I sure wouldn't expect them to do much if any of my past experances with them is anything to go on. One case, I had my house broken into and a .45 pistol and a good bit of money stolen, I was certain who did it,[a fellow that worked for me] who had beaten up his wife and threatend to her to get a gun from me and kill her and her mother. Wife and me go to the police who filed a report and that was it. Never came out to the house, and told us not much they could do.Finaly after my pressuring them they went to talk to the guy but who wouldn't answear the door and that was the end of it. State police told me since the county police was "On" it they couldn't do anything. Now this was a case of a stolin pistol, big sum of money, and threats of murder, .....do you really think a report of a stolen wood plane would bring a bigger response? ...Todd

>I was hesatant to write my response because I'm used to Police bashing or at least a very negative response to my profession. I wrote that response against my better judgement because I thought it might be helpful and I thought this community wouldn't respond like most of the public at large. I was wrong. I feel bad you didn't recieve proper police service in your situation. Like any profession we have our share of lazy and or wothless individuals and it sounds like one got your specific case. The media LOVES to print negative stories regarding the police, it makes great front page headlines and I'm sure sells lots of newspapers. Unfortunately it fuels a negative attitude in the general public. Often times a courageous and heroic deed goes unreported by the media or if it is reported, it's usually buried somewhere deep in the paper. Good news doesn't sell like bad news. Anyway I think we both got way off the subject. Bottom line I hope Chris gets his property back and the crooks are brought to justice.

>Well, Pam, that's the story he didn't tell us ;)

We heard some screaming at the neighbors a few doors down once, called 911 and 2 state police cars were there in less than 5 minutes. It turns out their were only two teenage boys with their parents gone (one sounded like a woman) getting into a screaming match. But the police handled it very professionally, treated us courteously, took us seriously and so forth; so I know there are some good ones out there.

>For the most part police are honorable and hard working. And then their political bosses get involved, sending them hither and yon for dubious purposes. And then there's the odd rogue cop.

Basically, I figure they have guns and sticks of various kinds and I don't, they also know how to use them; so I know they can pretty much do whatever they want and get away with it for a while, more often forever. And I don't want to even get into the current trend of potest suppression, which must be unconstitutional.

Hey, just so you know, going and finding and putting on one of the WC cop hats isn't any fun, and takes up way too much time I'd rather be spending making sawdust, or at least reading posts about woodworking.

Anyone know how to turn a nightstick? Should I use cocobolo or hickory? Is that soapbox dovetailed or just nailed together? :^)

Night sticks

Todd Hughes

>I sort of collect nice older Night Sticks and Billy Clubs [make a nice display with my whip collection] and the best ones are made from Lignum Vitae that Dense heavy tropical wood.I do have my Grandfathers which is made out of Hickory but he weighted it with lead to make it heavier.Used it on those union guys in the coal mines down in W.Va., has 3 notches cut into it so guess it worked OK.......Todd

Why do you think I might be Irish? As a matter of fact, I'm about 1/4 Irish, and also English, Welsh, Scottish, Deutsch and Mohican.

If I say any more it'll get political and that is not for this forum.

>I've turned more than a few night sticks (tonfa) for the local karate club. One of the members had a cocobolo set that needed repair and really, they were a bit on the heavy side. Mostly they want them out of purpleheart/exotic for kata practice and oak for sparring.
