Weekend Projects

Ernie Miller Topeka

>Im feeling better this weekend so I will try and get back in the swing of things. I may go and buy that garage door opener and install it but I really hate to let lose of the money when it only doesnt work 20% of the time. I will get the cement board installed on the bar and will try and get the granite cut to install on top of that. I have a Christmas present I need to finish up for one of you lucky people. I need to finalize the design of a step blanket chest for Zeus age is catching up on him quick and getting to bed is almost imposable. I also need to stack the fire wood up closer to the house. They yard also needs mowed and I need to figure out how to mount a snow blade on the mower. I probably wont get dressed Sunday night but if I do Ill post a picture. EVERY ONE HAVE A ROCKIN GOOD WEEKEND!!!!!!

>This weekend will see me in my first "full-speed" jodo class. A swinging sword and staff! Should be interesting. I may make a trip to Guelph (an hour or so drive) to meet a bokken (wooden sword for training) maker. Most of his work is done sans-electrons so that will be pretty interesting.

Take care,

Dan Clermont in Burnaby

>A bunch of us in the Vancouver, BC area are gonna slab some Mpale logs using Alaskan mills. Largest log is 48" diameter and has some pretty wild figured wood in it.

Total BF is estimated to be between 1300BF and 2500BF depending on how much rot we hit in the big one.

Have a Good Weekend

Scott, starting to play in Santa's work shop this weekend. Try to find flooring for the office too.

Frank D. in Montreal

>Hey Scott,

You should do like I do when I'm alone for Haloween: go trick or treatin' with an empty shooter glass instead of a bag for candy. Good way to meet your neighbors!

Luck guy!

Bob Hackett

>My brother was so impressed with the process of opening up his own logs that we threw together a Granbreg mill with a 4 foot bar for him to take west with him.

There`s little to compare to lifting the first slab off, sweeping the sawdust away and viewing killer curl for the first time.Kinda spoils you for doing anything else but sawing for the rest of the day.

Post some pics!Just warn us first so we can cover our keyboards.

>Firewood, cutting, splitting and stacking.I have to do it now because I go to Boston for my next surgery on Nov.3rd(Wed.)and I won`t be doing much of anything for awhile after that.

I DO plan to sneak off for long enough to polish up the new James Swan 1 3/4" gouge and 2" paring chisel(both with PLENTY of useable steel and good hooped handles)that arrived today from E-bay.$23 including shipping.BEEP-BEEP.

Date with a steelhead

Moses Yoder in White Pigeon, MI

>The steelhead is an anadromous rainbow trout planted in Lake Michigan; yes, I envy the guys that live on the ocean coasts and can fish for "real" steelhead out of the ocean. Berrien Springs dam is about an hour drive from my house, and there is a really good spot to drift flies through; I tied a few this evening, and will see how they do tomorrow mornign about 6 am. Tomorrow about noon I will be educated as to the process of deep fat frying a turkey, and will let you know if it's any good. Plus, I will have to sit around some and twiddle my thumbs while waiting for that box of goodies to get here to see if that 603 is as good as he says; I'm holding my breath till it gets here. I have plans for two benches about done, and will probably start making a parts list Sunday afternoon and actually start building something in my shop again. Since finishing that kitchen I haven't gotten into anything major, (too much time spent fishing) and am looking forward to the holiday season in the shop.

P.S. I already know who I am voting for, will just have to check and make sure I know what day to vote.
