Thanks in advance.

I bit the bullet and bought the set of 3 while they were on sale - great deal, IMO. I really just have had a need for the flat shave to this point, and that has performed wonderfully. The concave shave has the same fit and finish, and I fiddled with it a very slight bit (took a few swipes on some dowels). I was able to get shavings without any fuss. I'm planning to take a windsor chair class, and I anticipate that shave will be very helpful in shaping the many spindles. I'm also planning on some kayak paddles sometime in the next months and except similar utility from it.

>Yes, I have one and was using it last weekend to shape the leading edge of the centerboard for my boat. Nothing too strenuous for its first time out the box since the CB is just cedar. I found it did the job very well but as expected was a complete bitch to sharpen. I ended up using an old felt polishing wheel on my buffer cut almost to the right shape and going through a series of compounds. Worked okay, produced a shiney edge good enough to slice a piece of cheese ;) Don't know how else i'd sharpen it...

>I received mine and looked at it. IIRC, you can sharpen with a 3 1/8" disk with a sandpaper edge. I plan to turn something to size on the lathe.

Nice set of three, though.

>Do you taper the disk so that you have the same honing angle all around the bevel? The problem I find with using something large wrapped in abrasive paper is that when I have the angle correct for the micro-bevel on one side i'm effectively blunting the other... or do you use a microbevel??? On something the size of my gouges I can do it a little at a time but on something with this radius of curvature...
