ebay question

Mike MacDonald

>I just wondered how long it took most of you to receive final payment instructions and amounts from sellers off of ebay?

I've only purchased one plane from ebay and promptly sent my information to the seller and then waited about three weeks for a final total and mailing address to be sent to me.

I bid and won a #4 a few days ago and the seller was prompt in sending me a notice and request for my shipping information, but I have not heard from him for a few (3) days now is this normal?

>...with over 400 eBay purchases under my belt here are my experiences. Most sellers don't email unless they have to. I figure one in six or seven will let me know when they ship. There is no normal and there are occasional surprises. I had one seller put me under dispute for non-payment about three weeks after I paid and had confirmation. She was apologetic but in a condescending way when I pointed out her error. I'm still waiting on another item I paid for with Paypal over three weeks ago. Another fellow had the zip code calculator on the page and it automatically figured the charges and added them to the "Pay Now" feature. He emailed me back that "my" calculations were off and shipping was a bit more. Held my ground and he shipped anyhow. Put $3 (difference in postage) in an envelope and sent it to him after I received the product.

>After selling I send an e-mail telling the person how I accept payment. they either reply throught paypal or with a check or MO through the mail I then ship the item once I have money often without another e-mail. Don't figure I need to send a dozen e-mails to sell an item after time is money.

>As a seller, I send a notice of the total to the buyer within 24 hours, but usually within the hour of an auction close. What I have found is that occasionally the buyer doesn't appear to receive the email, and sometimes several, as they'll send me a couple of emails asking for the total after I have sent it to them. Make sure that the email address you have on file at Ebay is correct. I also think some ISP spam filters may intercept them. If your ISP does have a spam filter, check their quarantine file to see if you have any emails placed there. Also, check the sellers feedback. If he has a problem with corresponding, it'll probably show up.

>Ebay says both parties should email each other in 3 working days after the auction. I try to do it by the next day but I normaly don't spend the weekends at my house so if i have an auction that goes off on Friday night I might not be able to email them to monday morning.Still within the 3 working days.Probably about 30% of the buyers NEVER email me but I don't care as long as they pay.

Like Dale i have had trouble with my emails not going though somtimes I think because of Spam Blockers or the buyer not keeping his ebay email address up to date. I actually got a negative once because of this but when I called the fellow and explained what was happening.["uhh? Yea I did just get a new spam blocking program"] he retracted it. Big Hassel to have to get thier number and call the people.I normaly don't email the high bidders when i ship the items out.I just sell to much to be able to do this.If it is really important I will try.....Todd

>That's just it, I'm not looking for confirmation that the item was shipped, but the information so that I can send the seller his money so that he can get the item on its way to me.

Seems to me that if I got his first e-mail asking for my information I would get any further messages?

>I'm a relative newbe at e-bay. Twice in the past couple of months I won an item on ebay as I was heading out the door on vacation or business only to return eight or nine days latter. Both times sellers seemed a bit irate that i should take so long to respond, but both times I fell on my sord so to speak in my apologies and never heard any negatives after that.

>Is quite common for people to email me befor the auction ends and ask if it is OK for them to bid because they wont be home or available at a computer when the auction ends and might be late to respond or pay.Doesn't bother me of course but it is nice that they do this i think....Might be somthing you want to do next time....Todd
