>I NEVER said it was reasonable, I said I hated to see stuff like this thrown out where people do not know both sides of the story. I don't know both sides of the story and YOU don't know both sides either unless you and Rarotonga are one and the same.

I have bought stuff that took this long to get to me, just got a Bumper sticker that I bought on ebay back in the begiining of sept. Was I happy about it? NO! Did I call the guy up and leave rude phone calls? No I certainly didn't call him a thief on a wood working forum.

I don't know but sounds like Shepard has over extended himself and needs to rethink some stuff. This doesn't make him a thief.I don't think he took Rarotonga Moses T money and abscounded to Tahiti to live the high life with it.I think[THINK] it was just probably a bad mistake and is for sure not the way to run a bussiness,[as I am sure he is thinking right now] When I used to do custom work it was not uncommon for the person to wait 6 months or more to get the item But I never took any money till they got the piece then they sent it to me.Worked fine for me but I don't think S.Shepard could do this.

Heres the difference...I think it looks like Stephen Shepard didn't set out to do the wrong thing but Rarotonga did by posting this strong and inflamotory message.....Todd

>Have you thought perchance that maybe his email was down? I know Stephen lost his email for a long time.

However in a pinch - if you were that desperate you could have called him - his phone number is on his website.

I have done business with Stephen for several years. He's a good guy. He delivers. The only time we have had an issue is when he has had production problems beyond his control. Not his fault. But I have never lost a dime because of him and if anything he has undercharged me a few times.

THere is no excuse for being rude over the phone.

Even if you are in the right it will make anyone turn a deaf ear.

Ted Own, Dan Donaldson, where are you?

Dave Anderson Chester, NH

>I, for one, would ask that this whole thread be deleted. It's gotten way out of hand and has gone beyond the bounds of the type of discussion that makes this normally such a great board. Personal invective, name calling, and accusations from all involved in this thread do no one any credit. Please pull this thread before it deteriorates any further.

Bury Your Head

Charles

>I knew something like this would come up eventually regarding Stephen. Anybody can look through the archives and find my questions about the status of Shepherd's website, which was offline for a few months, as well as his business. I simply wanted to place an order. Stephen refused to acknowledge my inquires both by email and on this very board.

Shortly after he apparently paid his web hosting fees and had his site reactivated (navigating to his site used to produce a message by his hosting company regarding unpaid fees) I visited again and again emailed him to no avail. Apparently all the while he was still participating here and had ample opportunity to see my posts, or have somebody who knows him tell him there was a guy (me) who needed to place an order.

Invective? Hardly. Truth is a better word.

Re: CUT IT OUT!

Charles

>This forum is absolutely a valid place to discuss these matters because this is Shepherd's "last known address."

You guys might bow down to his woodworking prowess, but you are failing to see a very obvious character flaw which, as far as I'm concerned, taints everything about the man.

You guys are his 'friends' why the hell didn't somebody speak up?

Re: Ted Own, Dan Donaldson, where are you?

Charles

>Let me also emphasize that I remained diligent in trying to place an order with Stephen PRECISELY because of his reputation on this board.

I wasn't out to get him and put him in a bind. I wanted to buy the hardware kit and build a treadle lathe and buy some other stuff.

What pisses me off is that Stephen was here all along. Then I find out he took money and didn't ship product.

>Charles -

Did you not call Stephen as he suggested in a post on this board (at the phone number he provided on August 17th at 9:17 pm in response to your post on this board the previous day (i.e. August 16th)? I do note that Stephen submitted his post as a follow on to Joel's post in that thread. So, perhaps there was some confusion. But there it is... in black and white. Check it out yourself.

Apparently this one slid in just after you hit the "delete" button on that previous threat. Feel free to delete this one too. I wasn't trying to prolong the agony.

>It *is* a sad day when a raving loony such as yourself has to post dozens of times to prop up a story of "he never answered me."

So, I'm sorry he is, at least in your claim, unresponsive.

If he had a thousand dollars of someone's money for a month, I'd feel a bit more urgent about the claims made by you and Mr. R.

But SIXTEEN dollars? Sheesh, I probably spend that much at _Taco Bell_ in a month - and I don't get much for it either. *grin*

Come on. A polite message from you and Mr. R would go a lot further to getting some progress in the affairs.

You'll catch more flies with honey than vineager.

Take some mega-doses of Xanax and when your hyper-anexity wears off try again.

You've done the equivlant of standing in the town square and accusing someone of assult via a megaphone. The real truth of the matter is that it could range from not having happened at all, to someone rudely bumped into you, or real assult happened.

Assessing these claims on no evidence boils down to track record and known character. You and Mr. R have none. Mr Shappard clearly does.

Cheers,

Greg

Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery

Pat Riley

>Maybe if the original poster could read this wouldnt be a problem. It says "Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery" right on Stephen's page. That time frame had not even expired before he started complaining. If he filed a suit, he would be laughed at.

Perhaps some people need to learn patience - and learn to read.

Re: Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery

Charles

>Frankly, I would have happily waited 4 to 6 weeks.

To recap, Mr. Shepherd's site was down due to unpaid fees, when the site was restored he neither answered phone calls or email regarding availability of his products. I persisted based on his participation on this forum. I assumed, probably rightly, he went through a rough patch. That is no excuse for his inability to answer email.

As an aside, my browser wouldn't even display the "4 to 6 weeks" language, printed at the very bottom of the order page, unless I hit the maximize button.

>Perhaps....you might ask this group if they know of another source for treadle lathe parts or similar products that Mr. Shepherd offers that you might need and that we recomend. You might find a wealth of useful information will follow in a positive format.

So.....what do you need a treadle lathe and a hunert' bucks worth of wood restorer for? Sounds like a rather ambitious project that we'd love to hear about.
