Round plane 2

>Thanks for being patient - I got the pictures I took of my version of a round plane back last night and I'm finally getting around to posting them. I'm also including a drawing that didn't turn out as well as I wanted - but that's life.

It seems to me that this technique would work fine for any increment that you can get dowels in. It is limited to cutting only as deep as the radius of the dowel. I saved the 3/16" slice from the throat as a guide to grind the "iron" I used.

If I were going to make another one of these, I'd open the throat a lot and probably use one of the replacement irons for the cheap rosewood rabbet planes that Lee Valley or Woodcraft sell.

>These pictures look sooooo much better. I finally have the idea, your quite brillant also. You did a fine job on that plane. Also winning the hearts of your HOA. He, he, Hoa, I like his posts too...

>Thanks, this time I used a real camera to take the pictures! :) I don't know about brilliamt - I just came up with the idea on the fly with emphasis on quick and cheap using materials I had on hand. I used the one hollow plane I own to get the angles and basically followed the method I've seen used on other laminated planes.

I appreciate your compliment about my job on the plane - although I suspect I'll never win the heart of the HOA. :)
