The square table is made of poplar with Red oak strips in the top. The top is glued to an MDF base.
The other table is all poplar.
That one was a first for me in many ways:
- I used a Gel Stain to color the poplar
- the top coat is polycrylic
- first truly rubbed finish
- the legs are mostly made with rasps and a spokeshave
What is NOT shown is the other top I screwed up on. That table is a prototype. I am finishing up the "real" table right now (it's made of walnut).
I planned on making the prototype from poplar and staining it walnut. I picked a bad stain and then compounded the problem by trying to bleach it out. Fortunately I had not messed up the legs yet so I tried something different and it came out fine.

>Ernie, I know I posted two of the first table.
However, I only had images of the unfinished table.
Looking good!

The second table is a prototype.
I'm finishing the *real* one right along with painting doors, etc.
:)
It's made of walnut and will be finished with BLO + Lacquer topcoats.
