>I sort of agree. Just last week I sold a really nice Stanley 5 1/2 type 11 , excellent condition with about all it's jappaning long blade and perfect wood, on ebay and it only brought $50[which was my reserve].Now I normaly don't sell many complete planes on ebay instead break them up for parts but I really thought this baby would do better then that as it was a somewhat desirable plane, good type and condition was so nice so i sold it complete.Wondering why mine went so low I looked up completed auctions and found out that mine had sold for about the highest price of any listed. Sort of made me feel better.I made money on it of course but think i could have come out ahead by breaking it up for parts.Last 5 1/2 blade i sold went for close to $30 if I remember right...OH Well. At the same time i did sell a common but clean older 9 1/2 block plane for $28 which I was pleasently surprised at....Other stuff is still hot esp. good pocket knives and the unusual.Sold a 1950 photo album with 30 photos of lesbians dancing etc, for $525,[paid $6!].....Todd
Nope! Not for classic Baileys. (PICS)

>For the last several years I've followed prices on the classic Bailey smoothers, the Bedrocks, and the signed British infill smoothers...both on Ebay and various dealer sites. Over the past 1-3 years I think signed infills are up as much as 50%, Baileys nearly as much and Bedrocks remain flat. This is completely subjective. As well, there seem to be at least 2 cycles per year for Ebay prices on this group.
Here are some recent closed Ebay auctions as examples. When I was buying on a steady addictive basis my threshold for Baileys in good shape was $30 for a #4 and $40 for a #3. Needless to say, I'm no longer buying now...except during brief relapses in my mental illness.

Its inconsistent
Robin Frierson
>Seems like the prices are inconsistent. I recently bought a boxed, near mint #4 type 16 for like 35$. And a good #7 for 33$. I sold a very nice type 11 #3 with a 30$ Hock blade and it only brought 56$. Seems to me prices are down generally with exceptions of course.

>It is inconsistent. I've been trying to fill out a set of Stanley Everlasting Chisels so I've bid on a lot of them lately. I've actually have won a couple nice ones for less than $30. During any given time, its always the same buyer running up the price. A guy will come in and bid high for a few months and he'll be replaced by another who then disappears. Right now there's a guy JohnCusick who's bought about 80 tools in just the last month and just won't let anyone else win a chisel. Needless to say the prices has been sky high the last few weeks. It'll settle down and come back to normal sometime.

>I think Ebay is flat across the board unless you have somthing unusual and special. You can't just throw crap out there and expect it to sell or bring good prices people are wanting better quality and it is bringing less as people will wait for a deal to come along. I think on a whole ebayers are getting smarter and learning what somthing is worth befor bidding. look at the price of 45's they are going dirt cheap and sell for more at my local auctions where people still think they are rare and desirable. I hope that chisel guy jumps on one I have for sale this week.
I thinks he has a chisel...

>Fetish. Never seen anybody buy up more. Whats this guy doing, trying to corner the market?
I'm almost thinking about selling mine because he's paying such big bucks.
I agree about the infills:-(

No kidding

>Scott. A month ago you could buy Everlasts for less than $50, sometimes a lot less. Now they go for $75-85 minimum.

>Norris infills have gone up a bit and many of them are far too overpriced in my opinion, but prices on Spiers infills seem to have dropped slightly. Mathieson infills seem fairly steady.
Slater bench plane prices have risen quite considerably in the past few months or so (no idea why though?) and are usually bid on - and often won - by one person in particular. Some of the Preston infills have also risen quite dramatically, while those by Buck, Holland and Marples are generally cheper by comparison.
User-made infills can go all over the shop as far as prices are concerned.

>I regularly buy #45s on eBay and there was this person "Geoyo" (perhaps one of you lurkers?) who was on a binge a couple months ago. Must have bought a dozen 45s in 3 weeks. The 45s seem to higher than they were before, but I haven't plotted the data. Used to be able to get a mostly complete beater (no cutters) for $20-30, now they are running $35-$50.
