Fund-raising thought

>Every year at this time when Ellis puts out the call for support, particularly economic support, I sigh. We don't have a lot of discretionary income in my family, for several reasons (fervently paying off mortgage before I retire, son has moved home in retreat from the economy, haven't had a raise in three years, etc.), but I somehow seem to have acquired more tools than I really, um, need.

There are a couple of posts on the "Looking for Something" board, seeking small items - a 1/4" Stanley chisel, for instance. What if those of us who are just pining for something but haven't found it in the wild put up a call on the board, with a promise to make a suitable donation to WC if the something appeared? Issues of postage would be worked out directly between the donor and the receiver.

It obviously works best for small items - asking for an LN low-angle jack or a Holtey smoother is not likely to get much result, unless there is indeed someone out there with more of them than s/he needs - but I could convince myself to pass along some of my duplicate small tools if I knew that I was contributing to keeping Wood Central going.

>good idea I have considered just the same. Or to post a tool and when its sold the buyer pays Ellis . Ellis tells me its paid for I ship the tool. At this time I could spare 3 tools all worth about 35 dollars. Or I could just ship then to Ellis and let him auction them.

What do you think Ellis..

>My other though is lets try to get every one to send a money order for say 25 dollars now and 25 more in march That should be a big cash hit especaly with the way the board is growing.

I feel its worth every bit of 50 dollars a year.

I can get more help here and faster than from looking for answers on the web or in books ect.

Not to mention all the great people I now have gotten to know all over the country.

you can't find that anyplace else that I know of. Just look at the posting to day on the too guys in Fla and how they helped each other. or the new guy with the stuck tool.

How can you price that

>I believe that is exactly what the "Benefit Auctions" board is for. Take a look.

Someday, I'll clean up my shop, and find the duplicates to offer up for auction.

>I was thinking less of the auctions than of the reverse: seeker, not seller.
