Actually, I take that back - some of the cheap Chinese ones are not carbon steel - some are barely even steel !!

And I'm in agreement with whoever it was who said to keep files seperate for wood and metal - makes a huge difference! Likewise keep your "for brass" files well away from steel if you want them to really work well.

Speaking of files, I might go and take a photo of my "special-made" dovetailing file which I've had for a decade or so now. It's been a fantastic talking point at the trade & exhibition shows.
