Recovering Deleted Items

>Dang, I just realized that I deleted something from my Inbox yesterday that I shouldn't of. When I was in the Navy the squadron computer dude was able to work some magic and recover this stuff it it hadn't been deleted for too long. Any chance that I can do this with my Windows 98?

>Todd,

If you are using Outlook Express for your mail, you will find the message in your Deleted Items folder. If you cannot find your Deleted Items folder, try the following:

On the toolbar at the top of your Outlook Express window, click on View.

Click on Layout.

Click to check the box labeled Folder List.

Click Apply.

Click OK.

This should bring you back to your main Outlook Express Inbox window. You now will have a frame on the left side, showing the various email folders. (BTW, you can make custom ones to store useful messages)

Click on Deleted Items. The message should be there. When you are done, click on Inbox, to get your regular view. If you decide that you do not like the frame showing the folders to be visible, click on the X to close the frame.

>Don't think I'm using Outlook Express. If I said that I was using Microsft Internet Explorer would that make sense?

I looked for "Layout" all over my tool bar, but didn't find it.

Thanks for trying to help me tho.

>Todd,

Internet explorer is the program you're using to to look at WoodCentral. If you look at the top of your screen, you should see a bar that says "Woodcentral Messaageboards - Microsoft Internet Explorer". When you open your mail, look at the same bar at the top, and if you're using Outlook Express, then it should indicate Outlook Express. If it does than proceed with Don's instructions.

Thanks for the info tho.

>Todd,

You're probably using hotmail's web mail interface - that's why it's showing up as Microsoft Internet Explorer. If it's anything like Yahoo, you have a "deleted" folder that should have anything you deleted within the last few days.

>Open your mail, then click on help. See if the drop down menu says something like "about xxxxxx", xxxxx being the name of the mail software you're using.

>that was the first place I checked Mike, but it was gone already. :~( Was hoping to still be able to recover it, but I guess I'm SOL. Ahhhhhhhhh well, no matter I'll live. Think I might need to set the Empty My Trashcan setting up to about 3 days instead of the 1 day that it is on now.

What fries me is that the nifty things I first learned to do on computers was in the Navy using Windows '95, and everything I had there is not on Windows '98. I really liked that Undo button, and the color changing button was right there at the top of the screen as well as the button to change the Font Size. Dang it.
