>The eccentric post of the gauge seems like it's inspired by the Caris patent gauge sold by Star. It's a classic wooden marking gauge that comes up on eBay from time to time.

I've always thought about getting one. And now, at that price, I soon will. Order placed.

Chris

Check the link below for more info on the Caris patent. To learn more about marking gauges than you ever thought possible, check Ralph's site at:

Addicting, I tell you.

>Hi Chris -

Close - but a different eccentricity...if you check the "View" in the price line on our site, you can see the gauge disassembled..

The chuck that grasps the gauge arm and the fence are a single eccentric turning (over 2 min on a CNC lathe to produce that part).

Is that good?

Can you explain what that means?

Ah!

Christopher Schwarz

>Rob,

Ah, I see it now. The shape of the fence face is eccentric, not the brass bar. I misread. Even so, uber-cool idea.

>Chris, I don't think the fence face itself is eccentric, rather the hole bored through it as well as the integral chuck are machined eccentric....relative to the center of the circular fence.

Rob, that's a beautiful job of machining on the fence & chuck. Having machined similar chucks for myself, all I can say is.....Superb!

>I already had the new outfeed stand torn out of the catalog and posted on the fridge for Christmas. I just went ahead and ordered the gauge, was already in the market for a cutting gauge for fiddle ribs and linings. Good timing! I really like the Tite-mark that my wife got me a while back, but this really fills a niche for me. Keep up the good work!
