Ouch...my favorite plane is damaged.

Frank Mutchler in Colorado Springs

>I'm planing down the top of a small workbench which is made of ripped 2x6 lumber from HD. I didn't think to remove the staples that attach the skew # tag to the ends of the boards.....my #7 now has a nice groove in its sole to remind me that steel staples are harder than cast iron.

Folk corrugation

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA

>Get enough grooves in it, and you can sell it as the rare factory-prototype "pinwale corrugated sole plane."

Seriously, Frank, I'm really sorry to hear. It's a drag when you mess up a tool that you're super comfortable with.

>Well, Bill, I look at it the same as a new vehicle. I know someone is going to slam their door into mine at some point, etc. so it doesn't upset me like it did when I was younger. Also, I can mess around getting the groove out and learn about flattening a sole. So far, it hasn't affected the way the plane works so I'm o.k. with it.

>Hi, Don. Yup, nicked the blade but my Veritas MK II took it right out.
