Finish for sharpening stone box

>I just made a couple of boxes for some flea market stones I picked up and am wondering what finish would be best. The boxes are some sort of cedar, (from a pallet) fairly dense, dark reddish brown, and aromatic, with white streaks. Any ideas for a finish? I know the stone oil is going to saturate them anyway, but I figure something (BLO and Turps?) on the outside would be a good idea.

>Angelo,

I really can't see that I'd even worry about a finish for the boxes if the wood is dense like you say, and most likely already naturally oily.

Maybe just a good coat of wax would be enough eh?
